The 5-Day Kilimanjaro Trek via Rongai Route offers a unique and quiet path to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain. Starting from the northern side of Kilimanjaro near the Kenyan border, this route provides stunning views, lower traffic, and a gentle ascent — making it ideal for those who want a less crowded and scenic trek. With full support from expert mountain guides, porters, and cooks, you’ll hike through forest, alpine moorland, and high-altitude deserts before standing on Uhuru Peak at 5,895m.

Sample Trip Outline

Rongai Gate (1,950m) – Simba Camp (2,650m)
After breakfast, drive to the Rongai Gate. Begin your trek through rainforest and moorland with chances to spot monkeys and birds. Reach Simba Camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Simba Camp – Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)
Ascend through open moorland with beautiful views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Stop for lunch before reaching Kikelewa Camp nestled in a sheltered valley. Enjoy acclimatization and rest.
Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)
Today’s trek is shorter but steeper, taking you to Mawenzi Tarn beneath Kilimanjaro’s second highest peak. The alpine landscape here is rugged and scenic. Spend the night in a dramatic mountain setting.
Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Trek across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut, your base for the summit push. Prepare your gear and rest early. Dinner is served early in preparation for a midnight start.
Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Descend to Horombo Hut – Transfer
Begin your summit push at midnight, reaching Gilman’s Point by sunrise and then Uhuru Peak. Take in the views from the highest point in Africa before descending to Horombo Hut for rest, then continue down to Marangu Gate. Transfer to Arusha and celebrate your success!
